Despite the fact that the Iron Curtain had vanished quite a long time ago, Metal bands from Russia still have the air of something exotic. And you can hardly ever see Russian bands playing live somewhere... However, ANJ from Moscov, founded in 2003, have alrady played at Finnish Metal Expo 2006, „With Honor To Live“ is their second album in english language. And it sounds quite appealing, real heavy guitar sounds (Finnvox-Studios!) that remind of Pantera, and Anatoly Zhuravlevs voice sounds pretty much like Taneli Jarva during his Sentenced days. And as soon as you got used to the accent, you will find this CD quite appealing – 80s Metal in the style of Manowar meets NuMetal, mid-tempo headbanger anthems plus more complex sounds. Yet, if you don´t want to spoil the good impression, I would recommend to leave out track 7, that is dedicated to Mikhail Gorbachyov – this mix of Metal, Pop and Russian Folk is in my opinion slightly off.
