You think Meshuggah are too complicated and not melodic enough, and Opeth "too soft"? So the Italians Adimiron might be exactly what you are looking for. Prog Metal meets Melodic Death meets Metalcore, that would be my way to describe the third album named K2 (it has nothing to do with the mountain, I guess). Despite the overall positive impression I simply get tired of hearing those MC shouts, although in the occasional two voices-version they sound quite appealing. Front man Andrea Spinelli does have the ability to deliver nice clean and melodious vocals, just listen to The Passenger - this one even reminds you of good old Savatage. A beautiful "ballad" is also Above The Rest, which has some Opeth touch. A track like Where Nothing Changes is one of my highlights, and the strength of this band, combining brutal riffs, nice tunes and both vocal styles. Sometimes they seem to be too keen on Prog structures, so that the song seems half-baked, e.g. Red Condition. The powerful sound • the CD was mixed and mastered by Jens Bogren (Opeth, Amon Amarth) at Fascination Street, Sweden - and a very special guest appearance by Annihilator frontman Dave Padden on The Whisperer cannot change the fact that I have mixed feelings about this one...
