Already before the wonderful Nocte Obducta broke up (temporarily), their singer Torsten Hirsch created Agrypnie. In the beginning it was only a solo project but, over the years, it turned into a real band with three full-length studio albums. In 2012, the fourth album is expected to be released and to ease waiting a little bit, an EP titled Asche [Ash] was published in the end of December. With a total playing time of 47 minutes, Asche is opulently equipped nowadays only shockingly few EPs achieve this impressive length.
Gnōsis opens the EP right away in a very pounding way, and it remains that way for the most part of the song. Still, itīs at the same time very epic and melodic. The same holds true also for the second song Erwachen. With 1.10#06+0.35 itīs then getting a bit more quiet and a piano comes to the fore. There are two versions of the song Augenblick on the EP, as the regular fourth song and as a demo version, meant as a bonus track. The demo character is, however, very obvious, on the other hand, itīs quite interesting to see (or hear) how a certain song evolves. The EP concludes officially and on a very soft note with Kosmos [Omega]. Mission accomplished, Asche indeed whets the appetite for the upcoming album but also as an independent work itīs a good recommendation.
