The familiarity of the guitar sound and melody of the opening song „Good night and shut up“ is the first thing that strikes me about Amity in Fame´s album „Through“. It somehow feels like I´ve heard this before or something very similar, yet it doesn´t feel old or boring, it feels comfortable and surprisingly fresh. I instantly love this album for sounding like everything I like about music. I can´t really put my finger on it, but it clicks with me from the very beginning. A slightly rough singing voice and melodious guitars, a bit of 3 Doors Down, a touch of Live maybe and even a tiny bit of Fury in the Slaughterhouse are just some influences I´m able to make out but I think that depends on the listener´s background.

Amity in Fame doesn´t sound like one particular band but like a mixture of many. They have created something very much of their own but they don´t deny the influences from different music and genres. The mixture is very captivating – I found myself listening to the album on repeat without getting bored. I love the opening guitars of “Shine”, the shared vocals on “When it comes to an end”, where singer Michael Bichler trades lines with guest singer Judith Schweder, the percussion on “World is in”. The album as a whole is enjoyable from the first track to the last, without any fillers or clunkers. The band describes their style as Powerful Acoustic Rock. They invented the genre and made it their home. Their music doesn´t really fit any other category and that alone makes it worth listening to. “Through" surely went straight to my heart and I can´t get the songs out of my head.

Amity in Fame was formed in Austria in 2008. “Through” is their second album. The band consists of Michael Bichler (vocals), Filip Hörschläger (guitars), Roman Mayrhofer (bass) and Michael Kapfinger (drums). On the album they are supported by Judith Schweder (vocals), Wilfried Wöss (drums) and Alexander Zaus (piano and backing vocals). Their sound varies through the album but the sense of familiarity is never far. The songs are hard to describe because they are so much at once. Fast as well as slow like “Cyranoia”, acoustic, yet powerful, or almost dreamlike with an undertone of danger like “Mirrordrops”. Overall this is an amazing album. Anyone who likes alternative rock that takes familiar elements and combines them into something new will like this.
