Hard rock, combined with classical orchestra music is a timeless symbiosis, which obviously will delight us again and again. Also Circle of Pain don´t want to withhold this special goody from their fans and release at the same time as the “Classic Live Tunes” double CD the same titled DVD, which contains a recording of the show of 2002 with the "Südhessen Symphonic Orchestra".
The „Classic Live Tunes“ had been recorded during the „Paradox-Classix“ tour through German theatres and halls. Remarkable is firstly, that the mix on the DVD differs a bit form the one on the CD. Indeed also here the classical elements are rather mixed to the background, but also the vocals of Uwe Johann are unfortunately a bit low.
The show itself is presented in a slightly shortened version, but therefor there are excerpts from a "Ballads und Tributes Show" (amongst others "Because The Night", "Doctor Doctor" and "Knockin´ On Heaven´s Door"), as well as an encore packed on top of it. The bonus section then offers about everything, what a collector´s heart might desire: aside video clips, encores, interviews and TV-clips there are also scenes before the show, the obligatory backstage scenes and a nice making-of.
The biggest downside of this DVD is however that it´s aloof audience, as the mood unfortunately transmits to the viewer at home. While the band gives their best, the crowd doesn´t seem to catch the sparkle, except for the customary applause between songs.
. This might be mainly due to the fact, that the makers of the show have decided for a “sitting concert” (i.e. a hall with chairs), and the crowd seems to be glued with their behinds to the chairs. At this point the question comes up, whether Pattex extra strong might have been used...?
Thus there is nothing to criticise about the show of the guys, as it is perfect, just the organisation could have been thought of better. Who wants to sit during a rock concert, even when the Südhessen Symphonic Orchestra is supporting the sounds...
Harter Rock, kombiniert mit klassischer Orchestermusik ist eine zeitlose Symbiose, die uns wohl immer wieder in Verzückung bringen kann. Auch Circle of Pain wollen ihren Fans diesen besonderen Leckerbissen nicht vorenthalten und veröffentlichen zeitgleich mit der "Classic Live Tunes" Doppel CD auch eine gleichnamige DVD, die einen Mitschnitt der Show von 2002 mit dem "Südhessen Symphonic Orchestra" beinhaltet.
Die „Classic Live Tunes“ wurde während der „Paradox-Classix“ Tour durch deutsche Theater und Hallen aufgenommen. Auffallend ist zunächst, dass der Mix auf der DVD von jenem der CD etwas abweicht. Zwar sind auch hier die klassischen Elemente eher in den Hintergrund gemischt, doch auch die Vocals von Uwe Johann kommen leider etwas leiser vor.
Die Show selbst präsentiert sich in leicht gekürzter Fassung, dafür hat man Ausschnitte aus einer "Ballads und Tributes Show" (u.a. "Because The Night", "Doctor Doctor" und "Knockin´ On Heaven´s Door"), sowie einen Zugabenblock dazu gepackt. Die Bonus-Abteilung bietet dafür so ziemlich alles, was das Sammler-Herz begehrt: Neben Videoclips, Encores, Interviews und TV-Ausschnitten, sind auch Szenen im Vorfeld der Show, den obligatorischen Backstage-Scenes und ein nettes Making Of dabei.
Der grösste Nachteil an dieser DVD liegt aber in der mangelhaften Stimmung im Publikum, die sich leider auch auf den geneigten Zuschauer überträgt. Während sich die Band auf der grossen Bühne wirklich alle Mühe gibt, der Menge einzuheizen, will der Funke bis auf den verhalten-braven Applaus zwischen den Songs nicht auf das Publikum überspringen. Dieses liegt sicherlich größtenteils dran, daß sich die Macher der Shows für ein "Sitzkonzert" (also eine Halle mit Stühlen) entschieden haben und das Publikum auch energisch mit den Hintern an den Stühlen kleben bleibt. Da stellt sich die Frage, ob hier vielleicht Pattex extra strong im Spiel war...?
Somit gibt es an der Show der Jungs wenig Kritik, denn die ist einwandfrei, lediglich die Organisation hätte besser überdacht werden können, denn wer sitzt schon gerne bei einem Rock-Konzert, selbst wenn das Südhessen Symphonic Orchester das Klangwerk tatkräftig unterstützt...
