For already 25 years now, Iron Maiden roves around the stages of this world. Everybody knows them, but hardly anybody knows how it generally began.

For all those, who want to get back to the old times there’s a new double DVD „The early years“ out now.

On the first DVD you find three concerts from those early days of the band. Including that, there’s a 45 minutes recording from the „Rock Pop in concert“-Festival in Dortmund/Germany, back in 1983. Compared to that, on the second DVD, the history is more effective. A documentation about the beginning of the band, some old reports from the 80ies and lots of bonus material, like from example gigs from the early days take really a lot of time, first of all, to be examined. I would like to draw the attention to a concert report, on which the band is shown at a gig on TV. If you think about the huge stages, Iron Maiden is playing in these days; it’s hard to imagine that they had to squeeze themselves on a 5-meter stage of width.

This DVD is something different and it makes a big distinction between the standard music DVDs. You don’t find a concert, which you turn on to hear two hours of your favourite music, here. It’s not the fact that you don’t find music on this one, but you have to switch trough the menu from one point to another.

It’s just a DVD that shows the beginning of the career of Iron Maiden, and this it does very well.

Vincenz Busch
