Your buddy is a Metal fan and has practically everything? No problem, this DVD is the ideal present, and also suitable to give yourself a treat (and you start yearning for BYH 2007, check out STALKER tourdates!). Balingen is one of those Metal summer vacation destinations for more than a decade, and Bang Your Head 2006 offered a mixture of presumably forgotten classics and modern sound. Who was not there can now enjoy some program highlights in this way, with excellent video and audio quality, and who was there might get a glimpse of totally new aspect, e.g that the Leatherwolf drummer plays with bare feet. 23 Bands, among them In Flames, Stratovarius, Foreigner, Anvil, Armored Saint, Death Angel or Helloween, four and a half hours playing time, this is indeed value for money.

And the content focuses on a Metal fan´s essential interest, the concert as such, therefore luckily there are no “artistic” camera movements, MTV inspired speed editing or psychedelic special effects. The latter can be found, though, in the 2 x 20 minutes of documentary material, because this is shown mainly on 4 screens simultaneously. A little bit too much, but still worth to check it out because of the straight-jacket-banging contest or Raven in their instrument-destruction frenzy.

It´s only bad that only in this documentary you can see a little bit of festival headliner Whitesnake... there is a way-too-atmospheric soundtrack for the photo-galleries, and some of the choices are not clear to me. Why three Hellfueled tracks, a band I don´t find that big and that good, but only one song of Helloween, Vengeance, Death Angel, Victory or Communic – a great band, btw? Really bad for me is the fact that there was also only one Beyond Fear track, the new band of ex-Judas Priest shouter “Ripper” Owens. Otherwise the bonus material is excellent, and Tony Martin can prove that he was widely underestimated during his Black Sabbath days...

Summing it up, except some little things to complain about – and I know how difficult it is do please everybody! - it´s a must! Get it!
