AIRBOURNE had been praised in recent weeks as well as their new album „No Guts No Glory“, from which some teasers were enough to get on a trip to Vienna, just to find out for yourself.
First support act were BLACK SPIDERS and this is a band to be remembered: Solid Metal and a remarkable drummer with his very own style. They created a cheerful party feeling – great! ENFORCER, the second act, however, could not really inspire with their Metal with some Speed elements. The singer screamed his guts out, but that wasn´t enough to convince.
A quick re-set of the stage revealed 24 Marshall amps. That was a warning that could not be ignored. The sound storm of the first song created my new hair style and convinced me of the fact that volume and good sound together can be very convincing. The comparison with AC/DC cannot be avoided, but AIRBOURNE is definitely not a clone – although lead singer and guitarist JOEL O’KEEFFE also took a ride on a roadie´s shoulders through the audience. No special effects, but instead a lot of action on stage and in front of it.
RYAN O’KEEFFE mistreated his drum kit as hard as possible, and also
DAVID ROADS (r. guit.) and
Bassist JUSTIN STREET were always on the move.
The song material was focused on the new album and had the audience freak out. Pure Metal Party with a lot of sweat, water and beer – they gave it all from the first to the last chord. Those guys managed indeed to convince me fully, and I just hope that I can see this musical thunderstorm soon again live on stage.
