Basically those festival shows in 2008 should have been the only ones Avantasia ever play. But fans can rejoice, Tobias Sammet and his musician colleagues reconsidered and returned to stage. Their club tour started in Switzerland with 2 evenings in a row at Z 7. Due to the show situation in Europe the musicians had to travel by train, yet managed to arrive punctually in order to start a new era of this Metal-Opera project .

There´s a lot of audience at the first show, even people from England, Norway and Slovakia. Punctually at 20 h the lights are dimmed and spots are turned on, people are cheering frantically when Tobi and his crew enter the stage; Amanda Somerville joins them also, for this evening´s Background-Vocals and some minor lead parts. With her pleasant appearance and her dedication she takes over the audience right away. The show starts with „Twisted Mind“, Tobi is in excellent shape and enjoys the hype around him, from the first moment there are ladies admiring him. Song nro 2 provides the first loudly acclaimed guest vocalist, Mr. Jorn Lande (Jorn, Masterplan) who enters stage to sing „Scarecrow“ and „Promised Land“ with Tobi. Two incredible rock voices that give you goosebumps. Those faster songs are followed by a calmer song, performed together with Bob Catley (Magnum), who obviously enjoys to be on stage and deservingly receives many cheers. Another surprise are Kai Hansen and Michael Kiske (both Ex-Helloween) coming in – what a pleasure to see those 2 great singers on the same stage. Oliver Hartmann has some vocal parts, too, but basically focuses on his guitar. Tobi Sammet entertains the audience also with his witty remarks, and before the encore part he claims that in his whole career he had never seen underwear being thrown on stage. And well, right afterwards a bra comes flying, that Tobi finds “ a bit small”. After almost 3 hours the band plays the final song „Sign of the Cross“ for which all performers come on stage, and then heavy hearted put away their instruments for today

What is left to say? All contributors to this great show gave their best, although some needed notes taped to the floor to remember their lines, and sometimes cues were missed. But all in all it was worth to see, just because of this amount of top musicians on one stage. Let´s hope that this wasn´t the last time that Avantasia Metal-Opera came to town. 10/10 (SM)

Alles gut also? (TP) 9,5/10
