The two biggest names in the movie sum it up quite well: Adam Sandler –his movies have been getting progressively worse and worse- and Chris Rock –who´s one of the best comedians and worst actors around- who acted in the movie, but did not write it. I´m not saying that the film was horrible, but it was definitely not great either.
The movie is about five childhood friends, who gather up for their old basketball coach´s funeral and spend quality time with each other and their families. All of the male actors are more or less successful comedians (Adam Sandler, Chris Rock etc.) and their female counterparts are talented actresses (Maria Bello, Salma Hayek etc.). It is this list of the actors and actresses, that gets one psyched up, but the film leaves one disappointed.
The film is a family comedy and thus there are funny moments and touchy-feely family moments; the problem was that these moments felt like they were force fed and there was no real testing to see whether or not they worked. The end result was that half of the jokes were not funny and half of the family moments just didn´t feel natural.
In the end, I have to admit that there were several moments where the film cracked me up hard and that´s where the points come from.
