The Lex
STALKERs Fresh Act April 2011

(This interview was done right before the terrible events in Japan. Our thoughts and prayers are with the suffering people, the entire STALKER crew wish you the best and that you can muster the strength to hang in there!)
Our Fresh Act of April 2011 comes from the land of the rising sun: The Lex are dedicated to the best of 80’s rock music. They tell us a bit more about the Rock Scene in Japan and the best sightseeing places for rockers when they visit Tokyo.

Who are you? Please introduce all band members and tell us where are you from?
We´re The Lex from Japan. Hideki on vocals and guitar, Keirry Blood on guitar, #2 on bass and Tatsuya on drums. Nice to meet you!

What kind of music do you play?
We play 80´s rock.

How did it all begin? Where did you meet each other? When was the band founded?
Hideki, #2, and Tatsuya started the band here in Tokyo while they were in high school.
At the time, Keirry was playing in a band in Osaka.
Back in 2008, Keirry and The Lex met for the first time in Tokyo when Keirry was touring with his band from Osaka.
A year later, Keirry moved to Tokyo and joined The Lex as a support member. Keirry officially became a member in June 2010.

(* Note:  The Lex has two members named Tatsuya.  ´Tatsuya´ plays drums, and Tatsuya (#2) plays bass.)

Who are your musical idols, what are your most important musical influences?
We are aspiring to be like Bon Jovi, Mötley Crue, Skid Row, Crashdiet, Guns´n´Roses, Ratt, etc.
Our influences come of course from 80´s glam rock bands, but we are also influenced by many other artists.

What kind of topics do you choose for your songs? Where do you get the inspiration from?
Our inspiration comes from normal everyday life - Interactions with people, random thoughts. etc.  We think of it as expressing our impressions.

How is the scene for Rock Music in Japan? Are Japanese people more into foreign Bands or do they also support their local Rock bands?
The Japanese rock scene is still underground.  Not many bands become major artists in Japan, but we believe that because there are fans in the rock scene, the rock scene can be made.    We for example, have many fans who support us, and come to see our shows every time.

What do you think are the biggest differences between the Rock-Scene in Japan and Europe?
We think that Europeans have the same type of emotional sensitivity as Japanese do.  European songs are dramatic, melodic, and full of sorrow.

Fans in Europe... We have never played in Europe, so we are not sure. (Laughs)

On the pictures you look like as if you take good care of styling, do you think styling is very important for Bands? What inspires you?
Thank you! Of course we think that fashion is important, too. We feel that when you see us, our style will win you over to The Lex.  Our Style is reminicent of 80´s glam rock fashion.  It is also an inspiration for us.  But, we´re always keeping an eye on new trends, too.

You come from Tokyo, do you have any insider tips for the Stalker readers, where they should go when they wanna check out the Tokyo Rock-Scene?
There are lots of great local venues in Shinjuku, Shibuya, Koenji and Ikebukuro. The venues always have great bands playing. You should definitely check out these areas.
Glam rock such as Crashdiet are popular in Europe right now. We would like for everyone to know that their are bands like that here in Japan too.

What are your plans for the near future?
For starters, we´d like to become the most famous rock band in Japan.

If someone is interested in buying your music, where can we get your record?
You can order our CD through Amazon.

Thank you very much for your time and all the best.
Thank you so much! Please check out our myspace (http://www.myspace.com/thelex_jp) and see you in Europe one day!
