Mama Trash invited to a festival in Helsinki, and there were rumours that this legendary producer and promoter from Delaware, USA (JGS Promotions Inc., featuring e.g. The 69 Eyes, Mortiis, Apocalyptica or Pain) was there even personally, but I cannot confirm that. Yet the selection of her artists from Sweden and Finland drew a lot of audience that was obviously recruited mainly from the Industrial Gothic/Cyber Punk scene ...

Sexydeath
And the band opening that evening was a perfect fit to that. I have to admit that this mixture of Electronic-Dark Metal-Industrial (Deathstars meets Wolfsheim) from Stockholm got probably everybody moving. The charismatic singer and band-mastermind Alex Frejrud had a flirt with the girls in the front row and offered a lot of action, whereas the rest of the band were a bit too static. Still an interesting act, and you better remember that name!

Sonic Roots
After a promising opening – singer Nenne (Ex-Spiha) stuck out with his white fur coat – the Finns could not keep this high level. Their dirty snotty Glam, something between Blues-Rock and Garage Punk, sounded promising but not quite mature yet. And they could not surpass the good impression of the band that played before, despite their plus of stage action...

Stereo Junks!
What followed afterwards can only be described as a force of nature, just rolling over you and leaving you speechless. Musically perhaps not quite my genre, still those guys from Helsinki kicked me out of my shoes, and socks. Straight forward Punk-Sleaze-Glam-Rock with a big “R”, singer Anzi Destruction reminded you of a young Iggy Pop with his energy and passion – just GREAT! Well, I had to buy their 4-track-CD (available via the band´s myspace site) right afterwards. And I assume you will read more about them soon also here at STALKER...

Gemini Five
According to the girls´ screeching this Swedish Glam-Rock-act had some female Finnish fans already. But just looking at the styling the expression “Hair Crime” kept popping up in my head. As far as the music was concerned, the best comparison I could find was W.A.S.P., perhaps a bit more Pop than those, therefore some ear candy that got you rocking easily.

Maryslim
This Swedish band hooked up with Mama Trash because of Jyrki 69 introducing them to her. And although styling-wise they seemed less spectacular than previous acts, their dirty Sleaze/Hard-Rock is inspiring and has something hypnotic. Touring with The 69 Eyes and because of their Sister Of Mercy coverversion “This Corrosion” they definitely widened their fan base, and obviously they learned a lot, just judging from their professional stage show that would have been impressive even in a bigger venue. Somehow I just found it a bit too professional and smooth. Nevertheless, a great finale for the Mama Trash Festival. Hopefully there will be an “encore” soon.
