1500 bands participated in the 21st „local heroes“ contest in the past 12 months, and on Nov 3 the 14 best entered the finals in Salzwedel, Germany, in order to prove that the youth of today are not just passive consumers.
„That was a close call“, was the jury´s opinion about the results of this years contest that goes into its third decade. The organizer „local heroes“/Aktion Musik e.V. had a new feature, offering two main prizes issued by the jury as well as the audience. Moreover, there were awards for the best singer, the best instrumentalists and the second-votes.
The jury was won over by „Down to Date“ from Berlin, 2nd prize went to „Heisskalt“ and third „Filius Nox“ - with almost equal points.
The audience liked „Down to Date“ too, but in their ranking they only came in third. - „What The Funk“ made second place, the audience award received „Showbag XXL“.
The second-votes award went to „Filius Nox“, and their singer Dominik Fischer also received the best singer award. Best instrumentalists became „The Aqualung“.
The jury award winner will participate in the European finals on Nov 24 in Vienna, the audience award winner get to record a song in the ´local heroes´ studio.
David Knopfler („Dire Straits“) and Adam Perry („Bloodhound Gang“) participated too David Knopfler, co-founder and guitarist of legendary „Dire Straits“, had a gig in town on that evening and also opened the stage of the contest finals with an unplugged show. Adam Perry, „Bloodhound Gang“ drummer, came from London to participate as „local heroes“ jury member, and he presented his latest project „BandApp“, which should make the contact between bands and their fans a lot easier. There´s also a contest that can still be entered until Dec 15. „The bands were all great“, he summarized his impression, he particularly enjoyed the genre mix.
