A Rock legend is back, with their eight studio album after a six-year-break. After touring with former The Doors members, Ian Astbury felt inspired to revive the band, with Cult-co-founder Billy Duffy (git) and a new team (Mike Dimkich – guitar, Chris Wyse – bass, John Tempesta – drums). The result is now Born Into This, produced by Youth (Killing Joke, The Verve) and mixed by Clive Goddard. And this CD, after a way too promising prelude with the title track, requires some time to take off. Until almost half into the program, to be more precisely, until “Holy Mountain”, when Astbury sounds like Johnny Cash (RIP) and attracts the full attention of the listener. And also the following “I Assassin” gets you in the mood and connects to the old hit album Ceremony. Yet in my opinion The Cult revived cannot quite continue what they started back then in the good old times. For fans of the band this CD is a must, and for all the others I would rather recommend to check the back catalogue.
