Delain boss Martijn Westerholt played with the Dutch super group Within Temptation, before the band really took off... a chronic illnes forced him to leave. Passion for music helped him to overcome it, and he founded this band as a project. Delain´s style is similar to Within Temptation but is still unique enough to create their own fanbase. Those 11 very effectful songs sound very original, and the band´s great musicality is doubtlessly well-founded. Therefore this is no one-hit wonder but something lasting... the opener „Sever“ begins quite unspectacular... "Frozen", "No Compliance", "A Day For Ghosts" are great songs and real ear candy. Singer Charlotte Wessels, rather unknown up to know, does a great job on this CD. The fact that Martijn found the support of Marco Hietala, Liv Kristine or his sister-in-law Sharon den Adel adds to their successful start with Roadrunner. Not quite typical for the heavy label, but still somehow fitting, the label bosses discovered a raw diamond that doesn´t need much work to become a jewel. So keep your eyes open and find out on the tour with Within Temptation, whether Delain can also convince live. We definitely wish them the best.
