Admittedly, until now I was never really into COC. But what Pepper Keenan (v/g), Woody Weatherman (g/v) and Mike Dean (b/v)present here after a 5-year pause is completely different. Their mixture of metal, punk and southern rock works wonderfully and quickly catches ones ear. The first half of the cd is very good, especially "Paranoid Opioid". COC present some varied, loud, but melodic work here. Unfortunately they don't keep up the same level throughout the second half of the album. It all sounds familiar and lacking in new ideas. The lyrics are also very interesting. Instead of singing about sex and drugs, these American guys are very outspoken about social issues. The lyrics are definitely worth taking a look at.
