Hooorrraaaay, Hollenthon are back!
Who has never heard of those Austrians before - BIG MISTAKE, and you should immediately go and check out their third album "Opus Magnum". Who knows the band already might just go and get this CD without hesitation.
And indeed, there is no risk for just doing so. "Opus Magnum" continues what the sensational debut "Domus Mundi" 1999 and "With Vilest Of Worms To Dwell" 2001 had started off: an exciting mix of Ethno-classic-Opera samples, bombastic Black / Death Metal, Prog elements on an epic scale that just blows you away. Opeth meets Therion meets Dimmu Borgir meets In Flames ... or something. Definitely a unique outstanding sound outside any category, virtuously pulled off once again by Martin Schirenc, probably better known as front man of Austrian Death Metal legend Pungent Stench. The opener "On The Wings Of A Dove" gives you the idea, melodic but wickedly complex, perverse ear candy just like "Once We Were Kings", and "Dying Embers" presents Martin trying out clean vocals, and he could do that more often as it sounds pretty cool. Therefore: This CD is simply a MUST, go and buy it. And if you don´t own the 2 previous CDs yet - well, get those, too!
Now the "side project" Hollenthon has finally become a real band, with Martin´s wife Elena (voc), Martin Arzberger (git), Gregor Marboe (b) and Mike Gregor (dr) in the line up. This summer they will perform at several festivals, and you can also check out the new video of "Son Of Perdition" on the band homepage or on YouTube.
