The monsters are back, punctually at Halloween Finnish monster rockers Lordi release their new album Deadache.
After their succesful appearance at Eurovision Song Contest 2006 and the following tour the fuzz around those shock rockers lessened. But they have not been lazily sitting in their caves, no, they were making movies, and 2007 Finnish fans could already see the Lordi Horror movie Dark Floors. After that they went back to studio to record a new CD.
The beginning of the album, because of those playful vocals, reminds a lot of „This is Halloween“ from Nightmare Before Christmas, whereas other songs have this already known anthem effect. There is no song without an immediate-sing-along chorus. Lordi stick to their musical outline: good solid rock songs to have fun and sing along with. „Bite it like a Bulldog“, already reaching the top of Finnish charts, “Man Skin Boots“, „Raise Hell in Heaven“ und „Deadache“ have hit potential. The keyboard parts had been extended, like in „The Ghosts of the Heceta H“ and „ The Rebirth of the Countes“. „The Devil hides behind her Smile“ reminds a lot of Phantom of the Opera, and the opening of „Dr. Sin is In“ features a known guitar riff, but that doesn´t harm the song. For „Missing Miss Charlene“ a tune was used that Mr.Lordi has already written in 1986, which gives the idea that he might have more stuff to pull out of his treasure chest. One thing left to say: A really excellent Monster Album that will definitely continue Lordi´s successful career.
