In 2007 Displeased records re-released Dying Fetus´ third release (originally published in 1998), which is truly a death metal gem. A record which I have been listening to for years, without that fresh shock of a new album, it´s really hard to review this one objectively. The maestros of groovy and technical death metal / grindcore created a cornerstone of their own style. Its dirty sounds amplify the atmosphere and the riffs´ crushing feeling and effect. Dying Fetus´ characteristic line carries through the album. It´s really worthless to start chopping songs into pieces and try to analyse every part of this record cos this works so well as a whole like some big, nasty beast. The only thing I can really complain about is that it doesn´t have any specific highlights and sometimes there is a danger of losing where the record is going because of that. But on the other hand it has no weaker parts either. Without longer words, check this piece if you don´t know what I´m talking about.
The Bonus DVD:
Even though it´s nice to get something special and fancy new stuff with re-issues, these kind of releases are just an underestimation of fans that even legends won´t be forgiven. KoA could carry on its own without any bonus material and messy live recordings doesn´t give it bigger value. On the contrary. I personally don´t believe that anyone can watch this DVD without getting totally bored after two songs. With this three gig and a couple of bonus videos set can be sensed that something had to be put together fast for a bonus of this release. One gig would´ve been enough, particularly if live action is something like: ”scruffy live recording matched over still picture”. Summary of this release is: CD is great, 8,5/10, the bonus Dvd is not: 4/10
