The prelude of the opus Ribcage from the collection of the Swedish death metal trio Ribspreader is first orchestrated as an acoustic intro which was probably meant to mislead the gentle listener because in the following acts the musicians advance a little more lively or as the artists themselves describe it, more “groovy” without, however, forfeiting heaviness. This instrumentation is contrasted by the morbid undertone of the lyrics, here words like dying, corpse or flesh emerge over and over. A topic which is unexampledly accentuated by the vocal expressions of singer Roger “Rogga” Johannson, who also plays a part in another Swedish institution of metal music, Paganizer. With the final piece of the opus the three ripspreaders pay homage to the punk heroes The Ramones and on this climax the listener is left on his own devices. Maybe press “Play” again!!
