Modern Metal from Sweden – from that you already know how the wind blows and thus “Daylight Deception” the second offering from The Bereaved goes about without any big surprises. Soilwork, In Flames or also Killswitch Engage send their regards. With singer Travis Neal, who´s also busy with Divine Heresy from the States, the band has, however, really hit the jackpot because that guy has a lot of potential both in the growl as well as the clean vocal range. The music is, like you know it from the genre best, catchy-melodic and heavy at the same time, however, the sickly-sweet, clean choruses start to really get on your nerves at some point. Simply standard Swedish Death Metal and there are already quite many similar bands around and without any rough edges and innovations it´s nothing more than background music. Bottom line: Nothing really exciting and despite the rather gloomy looking album cover and band name it´s “mostly harmless”.
