Melodic hardcore in a cloak of rock: with their debut album Smoke Or Fire follow in the footsteps of bands like Millencolin, Avail and Hot Water Music. The concept of this quartet from the South-East of the USA isn't exactly new, but it works. The guys managed to deal with socio-critical themes without having a too strong moralising undertone. Especially the opening song 'California's Burning'is very catchy afer hearing it a few times. Only Cryin’ Shame’ - the only ballad of the album - seems a bit out of place. All in all it's a convincing aöbum and definitely a good new act from the Fat Wreck stables.
