“Gravity of Light” is the 8 album of the Finns Tarot who released their first CD in 1986, and the sound and their looks have been changing since then. Marco Hietala should be well- known because of Nightwish in the meantime, due to his characteristic voice. Just like on the previous album from 2007 „Crows fly Black“, Marco shares the vocal parts with Tommi Salmela who should be known to people who attended ,Thunderstone concerts. They clearly stuck with the concept and the sound from the predecessor, but what is missing is ear candy like „You“ and „Ashes to the stars“. This time the songs are less like hymns, the lyrics less emotional.
I´m missing a clear structure and calm melodies, it´s like a sound chaos. There´s no song I´d like to sing along, and on the previous album there were some of that kind. Sometimes those nasal high pitched voices are so annoying you have to skip this part to the next track.
Some might like exactly that, some not, and I don´t like it – luckily there are those old Tarot CDs to listen to.
By the way, Tarot are touring Europe in autumn, you can find the tourdates here: www.wingsofdarkness.net
