The hardrocker Shakra from Berne are “back on track”. The Swiss return with a brand new singer, John Prakesh. When Mark Fox left after a 7-year long liaison with the band, the rest of the guys were desperately looking for a worthy replacement. In November 2009, they found it in John.
The first time Prakesh performed with Shakra was during a tv show “The biggest hits of Switzerland” on Swiss TV. However, with that performance he couldn´t really convince me, he was still way too reserved and also his voice didn´t seem like a good fit for the sound of the band. But, now, this first record with John Prakesh, is a really positive surprise. His vocals are raspier and they also fit better to the new compositions of Blunier and co. Partly, though, the snot in his voice seems too forced and thus, I can only hope that he doesn´t demand too much from his vocal cords. If he can reproduce the same sound also live, then Shakra have definitely found the right man for the mike. Hopefully, he brings them more luck and can do without any voice problems.
Musically, Shakra stayed true to their style, again there are the familiar melodies and some catchy lyrics. With Back on Track, Shakra have once again proven that they know how to master problems and that they belong to the big names of the Swiss scene.
