Already with the first notes it´s pretty clear whose album I listen to now. Korpiklaani, how you know and love them. And once again, there´s only one mission: fill your beer steins and drink, party and dance. Obviously, this album was written to spread fun and that´s exactly what it does.
Ukon Wacka, the title track of the seventh album by the Finns features besides many new instruments like a 7-string guitar, a mandolin, a mandola and the traditional Finnish instrument Jouhikko also another Finnish rock musician called Tuomari Nurmio. Noticably, it sounds a bit more melancholic than the usual Korpiklaani song but only at the beginning. The song Tequila is dedicated to the band´s fans from South America.
The album is a solid unit. All the songs resemble one another, still it never gets boring. Those who don´t know Korpiklaani very well may find it hard to tell single songs apart but that´s not really an issue. The main thing with Korpiklaani is that fun and joy is brought across to the listener and this works with every single note.
Party atmosphere is what the new album Ukon Wacka conveys in any case. My personal favourite is, however, the last track Surma. At least the beginning is great, here it starts off with a quiet flute only to then push forward with fast, odd vocals. An extra treat for those who want to buy the limited edition is the Motörhead cover Iron Fist.
