Mona Nylin released her first album in 2006. Even though she wanted to release the follow up album right away after her debut, many things happened that made her change her plans and focus solely on performing. After spending some time in New York, the Swede decided to move to Berlin, which is now her home. And that even though she didn´t fall in love with the city right on the spot but still, Berlin could give her what she was looking for. Today you can meet Mona mostly in galleries, small clubs or on the street. For Mona, the street is her stage.
Her music sounds US-American and some songs remind of old hippie Woodstock times. One of those songs is Coming Back. And it´s exactly that mix of old elements and folk, country and pop influences that make her album, Presence, an extraordinary listening experience. Songs with a lot of depth and on top of it all, a unique voice that sounds very rough, even rock-y. It just adds that little certain something. Run-of-the-mill is not how you could describe Mona´s music. Especially fans of Joan Baez should enjoy this record by the Swede.
As a little extra treat there´s a beautiful Swedish song, Den Vita Staden, on the record and also a French one, Des Yeux Plus Vastes. A very pleasant album with an interesting voice that takes you straight back to the 60s.
