Once again the fair land of Gothenburg, Sweden has blessed the true believers of Metal with a fresh band, Death Destruction. The band consists of musicians from various bands (Evergrey, Hammerfall and Dead By April), which are of varying genres and the mix of all of the sounds is quite refreshing. The band members themselves describe it as ZZ Top on steroids and upon listening to their production, it is easy to see (or hear) what they mean.
The record itself is not perfect. The first track is not particularly inviting; it somehow kicks into action with a typical Death Metal style, but fails to produce anything interesting or original. The second track brightens it all up and turns the music into a more Crossover path with a sound similar to Ektomorf, whereas the third, which is the single “Fuck Yeah”, sounds a bit like the later Sepultura production, albeit a bit more Thrash and Crossover than Death. It is quite difficult to describe. Nonetheless, “Fuck Yeah” is most definitely bound to get a lot of “Fuck Yeahs” from the crowd when preformed live! Other musicians may call it a bit cheeky to write songs with simple lyrics, which are easy to sing along with, just to get the audience to play along with the band, but if the audience likes it and it all works out, it´s all all right, right? As far as playing their instruments go, there is nothing to criticise; the singer, Jimmie Strimell, does not only know how to sing, but looks like a modern day Billy Idol.
Death Destruction is not the first band to incorporate several genres into its musical production and they have room for improvement. Nonetheless, their musical prowess is notable; furthermore, considering that the band members hail from respectable bands and a region renown for producing amazing music and musicians, I believe they are worth keeping an eye on. The musical style fluxes between Death, Crossover, Thrash, Hard Rock, Progressive ect. When a band mixes up their sound (e.g Korn), the possibilities are virtually endless; this being the debut of the band, I believe we will be hearing much more from Death Destruction.
They are currently on tour and we will be interviewing them before their show in Hamburg on Halloween (Monday 31st October - the other tour dates are on their website). Let us know if you want to know something about them and I will try slip in another question into the interrogation.
