Ektomorf just produced an unplugged album and doing that, they took a few risks. First of all, if a Metal band makes an acoustic album, it is obvious that the singer must be able to sing with a clear voice. Secondly, the album includes covers of legendary songs -if it goes wrong, it will go horribly wrong.

The first problem is that Zoltan Farkas is not the best singer when it comes to singing without growling. One could say that he can´t do it at all, considering that he is a professional musician. His pronunciation isn´t quite there -the TH comes out as a F and so on- but this isn´t a problem at all; this actually just brings a bit of exotic flair. None the less, it would be better if he had practiced his clear vocals a bit more before taking on this project.

The songs themselves are quite smoothly transformed into the acoustic form. The power which comes through the double bass and heavy riffs is quite well compensated by the pauses in the songs. It isn´t always about when you hit the heavy beats, but also when you don´t. Furthermore, it must be said that the guitar work is really well executed.

I think the best way of looking at the album is the covers, “Folsom Prison Blues” from Johnny Cash and “Simple Man” from Lynyrd Skynyrd. Bringing forth the transition from country / swamp rock to acoustic metal works quite fantastically, but the strongest element will always be the vocals, which is where the weakness lies. In his interpretation of Cash´s masterpiece, Zoltan brings in the growls, which save the day, but in “Simple Man” his vocal know-how leaves a lot of room for improvement.

I would recommend the album to all fans of the band. All in all, the album is okay.
