COILGUNS could easily be compared to a freight train running over pretty much everything that crosses its track. Guitarist Jona Nido, drummer Luc Hess and vocalist Louis Jucker (all three are also members of THE OCEAN) started their project in late 2010 and have embarked on a very interesting musical journey. Imagine a little less chaotic Dillinger Escape Plan and mix it with Pig Destroyer gone Sludge and you might have a slight idea what Coilguns sound like. Their sound is raw, aggressive, grindcore-esque at times and sludgy at other times and pretty much rolls all over you. According to their press release, the EP was recorded and mixed within one day. Don´t ya just love that attitude! The sound is crisp, yet not overproduced or polished, you really get that feeling of listening to a live-band that crushes the club in front of your eyes. Kudos for this approach! My advice: be sure to see them on tour this spring, support your underground, grab their EP and go nuts!
