Nothing had been heard from Hardline for a very long time. After their debut album Double Eclipse in 1992, I think they disappeared from the scene very soon afterwards. Now, 20 years later, there´s a new album out named Danger Zone which raises the question, how well does the band sound today.
This voice I know very well - but rather from Axel Rudi Pell publications than anything else. Singer Johnny Gioeli is the only founding member of Hardline in this now European based line up, according to the info he´s accompanied by Anna Portalupi (bass), Francesco Jovino (drums) , Thorsten Köhne (git) and Alessandro del Vecchio (key, back voc). The 12 songs on Danger Zone are well done mainstream melodic rock, polished with nice guitar solos, catchy choruses, a solid synthesizer basis and above all that this distinctive voice. Actually, only “I Do not Want to Break Away” sounds somewhat unpolished, the song “Danger Zone” has a bit more power, and “What I Like” is a little faster.
Conclusion - Melodic Rock fans can absolutely do no wrong with Danger Zone.
