Since their 2001 release „Violent Revolution“, Kreator are back at full force. Meanwhile, they have become the most successful (and best!) Thrash band in Germany and besides Slayer also worldwide. “Phantom Antichrist“ goes the same way as the releases of the last decade: hard, but also versatile Thrash Metal, combined with great hooklines and socio-critical lyrics you like to shout along. But there are also some minor changes: the lead guitars got a bit better and also more dominating and some slower parts were integrated, giving you the chance to take a breath before the next storm arises. But it´s Milles vocals, which have taken the biggest leap forward in development. Of course, there is still his special style to scream, but he also tries melodic singing here and there and it works great!
„Phantom Antichrist” is nothing less than a reference work for all upcoming releases of this year and many (maybe all?) of the upcoming releases will fail to make it better. The more careful I listen to the details to find a weakness of this record, the more convinced I am that there aren´t any at all! This one contains exactly 9 hits (plus one great intro), nicely produced and packaged and so there can be only one mark: the absolute highest one!
