“Woodland Journey” is already the third album from Panychida. The band from the Czech Republic get their inspiration from myths and legends of the Egyptian, Germanic or Slavic history. Formed in 2004, the band signed a record deal with the German label Folter Records in 2007 and thereafter, released the two predecessor records.
As far as I can tell, “Woodland Journey” has only been released as a bonus with the December 2011 issue of the Parat Music Magazine. The record contains both old songs, re-recorded or recorded at live shows, and also three brand-new songs. The most interesting thing about their Pagan/Death Metal, or however you want to call it, is the inclusion of old Czech instruments (as well as a bagpipe) and also the fact that a few songs are in Czech. Especially the latter, gives the entire record a really unique touch. Concerning the growls, they could be, here and there, a little bit better and more powerful but otherwise the guys are really good at what they are doing.
