The peak of Loverboy´s career was surely in the 80´s when they were one of the best known rockbands in the world. With countless awards and ten million sold records, they were the first Canadian band, who was honoured with Columbia Records´ Crystal Globe Award (for selling more than 5 million records outside of their home country). Even though the band still tours devotedly today, their last studio record dates back to 5 years ago. Now, Loverboy are back with a new record.
However, the pleasant anticipation quickly dissipates when you learn that there are only three new songs on the record: “Rock´n´Roll Revival”, “No Tomorrow” and “Heartbreaker”. Those three songs are actually pretty good; all the other songs on the record are old hits, though, re-recorded by the band. Already in 2009, Loverboy released their biggest hits on a Best-of record but those were original recordings. The new recordings sound a bit harder and are a bit more modern. This doesn´t harm the songs, they still sound as great as they did back in the day. All of you, who want to listen to the biggest hits of the band in a contemporary context and three new songs, of which especially “Heartbreaker” can live up to earlier successes, should really buy this record.
