When you try to research the band Breitenbach from Frankfurt, you soon come to two things that earned a few years ago some attention. First, the "balcony-concert" 2009 over a busy Frankfurt market; and in 2010 the release of a barrier-free music video to the song "Waiting" for hearing impaired people. Much more is rather hard to find about the trio of guitarist and singer Toby Breitenbach, who now released with "Ready When You Are" the second CD in his own label.

The album enters dynamically with "Changes" and pushes the style into a harder type of alternative rock. Strong drum intro with an incident riff; the sound mixed roughly. The voice is melodic, rather in a higher pitch, and slightly hoarse with some elasticity to the top. This makes for more curiosity.

"Follow Me" slows down the tempo and shifts more toward indie-pop, also unplugged probably quite conceivable. But even the chorus is well developed and the whole song has a varied kind of building, but here has a really large portion of mainstream pushed in; the promotion writes "the trio delivers rock without fear the mainstream”. Well, the mainstream is a body of water in which cavort all kinds of fish, both large and small, and the small are usually crushed or eaten by the big ones - if there is not this necessary quantum of exceptionality to push upwards. This song doesn´t have it and the following "To Eternity" also not, and so they really get under the fishy fidgeting of all that we already have heard.

"Still Emotionless" calls as a nice, quiet song for more attention, beautifully sung and played, and find his relatives in the 90s of the grunge influenced guitar rock like R.E.M. and others. The title song "Ready When You Are" puts there even more retro in on the ears, unpacks a serving classic hard-rock`n´roll and - if it had been played 15 years ago - could be said, it would relate to the 70s. "Yesterday´s News": Exciting, restless, wild and as a mixture between nu metal, hard rock and 80s melodic rock, depending which part temporarily prevails. As a final track "Tearing Down The Wall" should be mentioned as a hard bouncer, creating interesting contrasts between powerful riffs, pumping bass and vocals and reminding a little to the early Soundgarden.

The songs were written with great attention to detail. They sound fresh and spontaneous, which is probably because they have been recorded live in the studio together. The sound of the three instruments was thus enriched by overdubbing and various keyboard tunes. The album has some thrilling moments, but is temporarily just arbitrarily. The band drives well in the harder songs. Unfortunately, it tends in ballades and quiet parts like in "By Sunrise Today" not to refine the specific nature, but unnecessarily to speed it up with pressure. There is a lack of innovative elements, the style depends very firmly in the 90s, without - despite all talent - to push forward into truly independent dimensions.
