After being on hiatus for about three years, German band Emergency Gate are now returning with their new album, simply called „You“. They did, of course, not change their sound. They are still devoted to ass-kicking Modern Metal with some synthetically produced sounds. On this new album, they partially even put this sound mix onto a new level. Especially vocalist Matthias Kupka worked on his melodic vocals, which sound much better than before. But the band also put a lot of work into developing the synth elements in their sound system further. Now these elements are much more variable and also – Metal purists won`t like it – more dominant. It is even hard to imagine that some of the songs, namely „Moshpit“ und „Feeling Inside“, would even work without them. So all in all, „You“ sounds a little bit pop-y here and there just to hit you straight in the face the next moment. When you compare the album to the band´s last two releases it´s easy to notice that they really improved their sound. Now it is a real blast. And even though they also improved their hooklines, they are still the band´s main weakness: After a couple of rotations, only very few songs are stuck in my mind.
