Since the mid-90s, the men from Helsinki, Finland, release albums at irregular intervals. This time, it took The Milestones five years to eventually publish their fourth album titled Higher Mountain – Closer Sun. The music they play is rather unusual for northern Europeans - the Classic Rock or perhaps Southern Rock sounds very US-American but with a Finnish touch and I´m not talking about melancholy here. Equipped with a harmonica and a distinctive voice, Olavi Tikka puts the icing on the already delicious The Milestones cake. Great guitar riffs, catchy songs and a general feel-good vibe await the listener. The majority of the songs are uptempo but there´s also a nice acoustic ballad (“Grateful”) – a beautiful song. All the guys are involved with several other projects and they are very busy, that´s why one is extra happy each time a new album comes out. With the new record, one can really hear that the guys did not have any time pressure whatsoever. They really took their time to write the songs and let the music mature. Once again, the Milestones managed to bring out the best in themselves. “Higher Mountain” is a great record, everybody should listen to at least once.
