Hidden Intent are a quite new, three-man Thrash Metal band from Adelaide/Australia. Their passion is old school Thrash Metal à la Metallica, Slayer, Annihilator and Megadeth, just to name the most important influences. Chris McEwen (bass/vocals), Phil Bennet (guitars) and Jay Rahaley (drums) play in the most minimum line-up possible but still they manage to produce a lot of pressure. Only here and there, especially with guitar solos, for which they did not record a second rhythm guitar due to authenticity issues, the sound becomes rather weak. In comparison to the bands mentioned, Hidden Intent´s musical possibilities are, of course, limited because of their small crew. So, the guitar leads are few and far between, making the sound a bit monotonous. The vocals, too, could have been better. Even though, vocalist, Chris McEwen´s intonation reminds a bit of James Hetfield, and he also uses some high screams to bring in some variation, his vocals are definitely not a wow factor. This is mostly because of the melodies and the lyrics – neither of them is catchy. So, “Walking Through Hell” is neither good nor bad, it is simply average.
