The story of AOR band Seven is certainly interesting. They formed in the late 80s, toured successfully, recorded two singles and were dropped by their label. In present day, Escape-Music´s label boss, Khalil Turk, brought them back together to finally release an album in the original line up – “7“ is the result.
It´s a fine hard rock album and it does not sound as 80-ish as one might expect. It has a fresh and somewhat edgy present-day sound that works well. The melodies are powerful and complex, softer keyboards contrast the rougher guitar riffs and the lyrics aren´t bad either. Not to mention the driving drums and great singing. The sound is reminiscent of other bands - I hear traces of Heart, Foreigner, for example, but there are many others I cannot name. So this may not be the reinvention of the wheel but it takes elements that work in other music and combines them into strong new songs. “7” is a listenable album throughout and anyone who is into Hard Rock and AOR should check it out.
