Morlas Memoria is a new band from Dresden, Germany. In the underground, they already made a name for themselves, having played a couple of shows, also at the famous Wave-Gotik Treffen in Leipzig. Last year, they released their first album and also shot a nice video clip for the title track.
When listening to “Follow the Wind”, it is quite obvious, from the first moment on, from which band Morlas Memoria take their cues. Orchestral sounds, a soprano and hard guitar rhythms: Of course, it is Nightwish! And there are worse idols than Tuomas Holopainen and his sidekicks, especially because Morlas Memoria do their jobs well. All songs are arranged in a versatile way and are original enough to clearly set them apart from their idols. And, there are two more pros: First, the sound is always powerful and clear. Second, the songs have string arrangements that really work and are never over-the-top but serve the song. There are also some nice melodies but if there´s one thing, the band could improve upon, it´s the choruses. Also, I´d like to hear more of those soprano-rougher male vocal duets. Just like with “Case of Pandora”:
