What an album title... with „Sonic Scriptures Of The End Times / Songs To Have Your Nightmares With” The Wicked have made an album, that exposes the band members as lateral thinkers. The names of some of the band members may be well known to some of you. The band is a compilation of three (actually four) very diverse, well known, Finnish bands and their sound. The band shouldn’t be regarded in that way, however, because with „Sonic Scriptures Of The End Times / Songs To Have Your Nightmares With“ they have made it absolutely clear that they are serious about this and that the band is not just some project. If you expected normal viking, black, or death metal, you will be quite surprised, as The Wicked are much too experimental to be put into any of those categories. This makes it difficult for the record label, their promotion team and also for me, to give the puppy a name, but it doesn’t matter. The album is very diverse. At times it sounds like the powerful Finntroll / Moonsorrow keyboards, at other times it sounds almost like industrial music and in between, they use a lot of samples and sequences from films. The album is solid, dramatic and solemn, without going overboard. It’s a bit hard to follow in places (at least without a beer) and therefore shouldn’t really be used as background music. I would love to see the guys (and girl) live. A recommendation for enthusiasts of Nordic madness!
