When a former STALKER Fresh Act from Finland plays the very first gig in the capitol city, we just had to be there...
This trio wasn´t bad indeed, and for one song they even had a guest musician on trumpet. Still the overall sound was a bit too “alternative” for my taste, with some Stoner Rock influences, and did not quite take off.
Combover had a lot more action to offer, also music-wise: dirty Rock´n´Roll with go-for-it attitude. And in my opinion they could have been even heavier and more reckless… also in terms of outfit Hanoi Rocks´ Andy McCoy seemed to be the guitarist´s idol.
Starcrash This indeed fresh = very young act had to cope with headliner status and late playing time (after midnight) at their Helsinki-premiere. No wonder front man „Pepe“ Toivainen seemed a bit restless before the show (denying being nervous). But then on stage you could not recognize their newcomer status – like old professionals and with a sound close to CD perfection, those guys from Kemi played a flawless 60-min Old-School-Hardrock/80s-Metal-set, including e.g. „No Pain No Gain“ and „Before Tuesday´s Gone“. As charismatic and excellent singer, Pepe also did most of the stage show, only later guitarist Tuomas Immonen and bassist Make Kerosalo moved a bit more, too. The reason why they didn´t play an encore – they simply didn´t notice that people were demanding one... well, those jimjams... definitely an act you better keep an eye (and ear) on!
