If you really want to risk leaving your home on a Friday 13, you better have a good reason. A gig with Mind Of Doll and Defuse seemed to be a good argument, though, to have a visit at Tavastia´s little brother, the Semifinal Club.

At arrival the venue was already crammed and the atmosphere was just exactly right for a proper rock´n´roll show – small, narrow, alcohol-infused and so Mind of Doll seized the opportunity first.

First thing you notice is that frontman Visa ditched his guitar and thus has more freedom to play the showman. Tonight he shows off his best Axl Rose impersonation and rattle playing skills. The gig is opened with one of their catchiest tunes “Marks on my Face”, which is not that bad because MoD have enough sing-along songs up their sleeves to keep the cheering crowd well-entertained for an hour playing time. The band focuses, of course, on songs from their latest record “Low Life Heroes” and judging from the performance and the looks you really buy the “low life heroes” from the guys. If that´s, however, a good or bad thing remains to be seen. If they really can keep their act together, they could become “superheroes” of Finnish rock music because once you hear on of their songs you can´t get it out of your head anymore. Go and see for yourselves, Mind of Doll will be on tour in April and May.

Defuse were actually supposed to play first but then had to switch with MoD on short notice which turned out to be not such a good idea because the crowd had been spoilt a little too much by the catchy tunes of Visa and his men before. Following such an act Defuse simply pale in comparison even though their rock´n´roll attitude is nothing short of their predecessors but somehow their songs miss a certain something, a certain catchiness, the shout-along-factor und so the one-hour-playtime becomes longer and longer and many were already on their way home or planned their way to the next bar. Talking to our STALKER “mole” after the show the band itself had to admit that it wasn´t their best gig.

Be it as it may, Friday the 13th is over without causing too much damage and we´re already looking forward to the next gig.
