"I used to worry `bout the money comin` in - Now I stick it in the charity bin": While elsewhere people are just debating about relief fonds for Japan, Michael Monroe lives up to the lyrics of his song "All You Need" (from his brandnew album "Sensory Overdrive") and initiates quickly the "Pelasta Punainen Pallo" charity event [in English: "Save The Red Ball"] at Tavastia. The line-up contains acts from different music genres (Michael Monroe & Von Hertzen Brothers: Rock; Tuomari Nurmio: Blues Rock; Ismo Alanko: Singer/Songwriter; Jenni Vartiainen: Pop; Paleface: Rap). Already during his three gigs the days before, Michael advertised this charity event assiduously, so it´s completely sold out in the end. At the entrance you can also put money into a big ball, all employees are working for free today and Michael himself was busy as a bee and signed backstage passes of his former band Hanoi Rocks and harmonicas, to be purchased the merchandising booth. Tavastia itself is decorated “Japanese style” with artificial cherry blossoms, hand fans, folding screens, paper parasols and Japan flags. Here and there you can even spot a geisha.

As the program starts relatively early, we unfortunately make it only to the last gig which is the one of the one and only Michael Monroe...
Armed with a saxophone, he starts to rock right away with "Trick Of The Wrist", followed by "Got Blood?", one of my personal favourite songs from "Sensory Overdrive". Today`s setlist is quite dominated by compositions of the latest opus anyway but we don`t mind even though I admittedly miss the brilliant "Love Song" / "Machine Gun Etiquette". Beside this, there is nothing left to be desired: The band rocks wild as always, Michael entertains amongst others with his facial expressions and today especially with his funny lines like "Check your email, I check my female - That is my wife!". Well, that`s the point that differs those who want to be rockstars from those who are rockstars in fact: While the former waste their time by fulfilling the common Rock`n`Roll clichés (drug excesses, groupie antics,...), the true Rock`n`Roll is in Michael`s blood - and he knows not only how to rock but also how to do it for a good cause. And in the end, the "Pelasta Punainen Pallo" event made 26 000 euros. By the way, donations are still accepted...
