First and foremost one thing must be said: The most critics one would normally give to the following review would be more or less only critic against the genre wherein the artists work: Power, Fantasy and Pop metal. I have written the review purely from the perceptive of a fan of the genre and thus it is mostly the technical aspects of the performance that will be evaluated. Grosse Freiheit 36 provided a pretty great show for the Hamburgers on Halloween and almost filled up the whole house, despite the show being on a Monday.

The show kicked off with Death Destruction and I must say that I was disappointed. Either the guitarist had gargantuan problems with his instrument or other technical difficulties, or then he was massively nervous, or something else; I don´t know, but it was unsatisfactory. What I do know is that the drummer and bassist were awesome, the singer was mediocre. Even the almighty "Fuck Yeah", from their debut – which was really good – sounded mighty weak and apart from some 10 people, the audience responded lethargically.

The second band, Amaranthe would fit into an Idols show or into Eurovision: There were three singers on stage: Jake E (who´s voice would fit very well in a boy band), Elize Ryd (the female voice) and Andreas Solveström, whose growling was one of the few aspects, which held the genre of the band within Metal. Technically the band worked as a whole and the audience seemed quite pleased with the songs they played, e.g. “1,000,000 Lightyears” and “Automatic.”

Vicious Rumours really kicked it up a notch. There wasn´t a single boring moment in the performance and many of the songs like "Soldiers in the Night" were much appreciated. Furthermore, there was nothing to grumble about; technical wise or other it was perfect. Apart from the music, the show was very entertaining; at the end of the last song, the two guitarists and bassist simulated beating up the singer to death with their instruments and the bassist showed how to play bass and do yoga simultaneously.

Hammerfall brought the evening to its crescendo. They played the older classics, which the audience loved, but unfortunately the newer tracks –“Let`s Get it On,” for instance- didn´t go down that well. While playing the evergreens, like “Heeding the Call,” it was difficult to hear the singer because the spectators were shouting along so hard. They were also the only band to have a more special stage setting, which consisted of hundreds of LED lights mounted onto the side of the stage.

All in all, the concert was a success due to various reasons: First and foremost, the concert was almost sold out and the audience loved it. Sure, there were a few things here and there that could have been better, but that is almost always the case. If the show would have consisted of only Hammerfall and Vicious Rumours, I would have given only a half a minus point –for the newer songs from Hammerfall.
