A few weeks ago „Armamentarium“, the long awaited third album of the Melodic Death Metal / Metalcore band Neaera came out. The band name comes from the Greek mythology and indicates a woman who has to live her whole life imprisoned and being sexually exploited. Guitarist Tobias Buck took time and answered STALKER´s questions...
What happens now after the release of your new CD Armamentarium, and what does that title mean?
Everything is fine. We are very satisfied. The word Armamentarium comes from Latin language and means weaponry or armour. The song deals with the social climate, the coldness we experience. Everybody is on his or her own.
How long did the production/pre-production process take, and was there a lot that was left over that is about to be released some day?
Writing of those songs took a year. The production process lasted two weeks. We recorded the instruments in Denmark with Jacob Hansen, and Bennie´s vocals were recorded with Alexander Dietz at Rape of Harmonies studio. Every song that we have written is on the album.
Did something interesting or funny happen during the recording process?
Everything was very relaxed. We were very focused on hour work so that everything could be recorded quickly. I wasn´t there but I heard that Benny was recording one song naked... hahahaha.
How do you write your songs? Via computer, jamming etc?
We write our songs in the rehearsal room. We go there with ideas and riffs and try as long as it takes until we are satisfied with the result. This is a natural process for us.
You are a quite intense live band. Are there new touring plans? And in which countries would you like to present your material?
October 19 our first headliner tour begins that we are doing with our friends Deadlock as supporting act. It would be great, of course, to play in Japan or the USA one day. Perhaps it will work out one day.
What are the musical influences for this album?
These are mainly bands like Bolt Thrower, Amon Amarth or Carcass. I listen to a lot of Black and Death Metal, and naturally that influences our songs. We play what we like to listen to in private, and what we emjoy doing.
What do you listen to now?
At the moment the new CDs of Aborted, Behemoth, Job for a Cowboy and The Black Dahlia Murder are played all the time, but I also listen to Bolt Thrower and Heaven Shall Burn in between.
What inspired you to make music?
One word: FUN.
What do you think about the medium myspace or the internet – helpful or a curse, because too many less gifted bands have found a market for their stuff?
For us a medium like myspace is quite positive. We can reach so many people that way. And in the whole world. This is quite good for us.
Why should one buy Armamentarium?
Because it´s a great record.
Thanks for the interview and good luck!
Thanks for the Interview. Come to see our shows, buy the records. We are on tour by October 19. See you!
