April Fools Day! A band that we would like to have for real, indeed... But perhaps this is still fun to read, even after April 1, 2009...
A new sensational band with their new sensational Hate Metal is ready to take over first Europe, and then the world. STALKER was granted the very first interview they ever gave and proudly presents - KASOKLASA.
Who are you? Please introduce all band members with all their characteristics, spleens etc. Evgeny: Evgeny Vladimir Igor Leonidov, aka E.V.I.L., from Tartastan, vocals and Tatar lyra with hair from human. Father Mongol, from who learn throat singing. Mom ill, so have to earn money. Have to help. Hallgerd: I´m the guitar player Hallgerd, that´s only my artist name, my real one I gotta keep a secret as long as Finnish police is still out to catch my poor deserter´s ass. Perhaps I should not have said that. But soon I´m going ot be a real girl, finally, and then Finnish army can kiss my butt, THE WHOLE ARMY!! LITERALLY! SAATTAANAA! Borghild Borghild Helmgardson, Bass, I´m from Norway, I was born in Nissedal in the province Telemark. Once I have been studying Arctic Biology, at the UNIS Bergen (University Center in Svalbard) and I quit about 3 years ago, as I preferred to earn some money on this oil rig - Håvard: DON´T TALK SO MUCH! Håvard Jørgensen, Drums, and who I am is none of your business.
Where are you from? Borghild As mentioned above, we are a multi-national band, we all live at Spitzbergen, which is part of Svalbard Archipelago, a grouping of small islands near the Norwegian coast. Our rehearsal room is there, inside an old mining tunnel, but otherwise we live on this oil platform near the coastline. This is also the motive of our band logo.
What kind of music do you play, and what does the Band name mean? BorghildWe play Hate Metal, a mixture of Black Metal and traditional Tatar Folk music. Our debut CD "Rånråde" is now finally released outside the oil rig. Kasoklasa means "goat blood" in Evgeny´s home dialect. However, "Rånråde" comes from my home dialect and means something like "way of the whales", that´s a very poetic synonym for "the ocean". Håvard:Ocean - "Calm-peace-oasis" Hallgerd: "Where-fish-fuck". This is why I refuse to drink water. Hey I´m a Finn, I have a reputation to live up to... Evgeny:"Blood of goat, make Evgeny strong".
Who do you want to reach, or what do you want to achieve with your music? Borghild All and everybody! Håvard: Nobody. Nothing. Hallgerd: Uh? Achieve? What? Evgeny: Mamushka shall be proud.
How did it all begin? Borghild We met on this oli rig when we all did the night shift, and our problem was that the suitcase with all my CDs had gone over board when I came, accidentally, so all that was left was only this one HIM CD, left behind by somebody in the meeting room. Nothing else, and that for almost 3 months until the next ferry came. Out of desperation we started to make our own music; luckily Evgeny had taken his lyra with him and sang us songs from his home country. Evgeny: Sad songs, teached by grand father. Borghild We played the whole HIM album "Love Metal" backwards and 3 times faster, that was our first demo "Hate Metal", which became a hit on the oil rig and was on heavy rotation on the oil-rig intercom, between the alarm calls. Håvard: I just wanted to be left alone. Didn´t work. Hallgerd: Black Metal has always been my favorite, the only music genre that enabled me to wear make up and frill shirts without being laughed at. Well, as long as I´m still a man.
What are your most important musical influences? Håvard: HIM - inevitably. Evgeny: And Huun-Huur-Tu, mean "60 horses in my herd". Famous band in Mongol county. Borghild You´re indeed horse-people, you Tatars make everything out of horses. Håvard: And if you don´t shut up I make you my next drum skin. Hallgerd: Don´t be so bitchy, Håvard! There are people in this band who have feelings!
Who writes the music /lyrics, or are all in the band responsible? Hallgerd: Most riffs are written by me, or by Borghild, and Håvard does the rhythm work. He has this very special technique that he created and taught himself by hacking wood. The lyrics are all written by Evgeny, and only he knows what they are all about - so tell us, Evgeny. Evgeny:Njet. Only for me and Mamushka.
What do you do if you are not in the band (studying, working)? Hallgerd: Just working my ass off on the oil rig. I need money for my sex change, otherwise we cannot tour in Finland. Borghild On shore leave I work in the blacksmith shop of my great-great cousin. Håvard: Not your business. Evgeny: Dreaming of steppes and horses. And Mamushka.
Would you sell your soul to the devil to become famous? All: Sure! At once! Håvard: He has just not dropped by yet.
What is your dream, where does your motivation come from? Borghild My dream is to create my own black smith workshop. There are 5000 year old cave drawings and paintings that I plan to put into iron jewelry, just like what I did with our CD cover morive. Håvard: Enough money to by my own lonely island. Hallgerd: Dream? Pussies, of course, and soon I can pick my own. Motivation comes from booze. Evgeny: Mamushka shall be healthy, visit and see concert.
What was the most disappointing moment in your band history? Håvard: Dunno. Borghild Håvard does not love me. Håvard: I don´t love anybody. Hallgerd: All the beer was gone after the rehearsal. Evgeny: My pet goat Katjoshka dead.
Which song are you most proud of, and why? Håvard: None. How could you be proud of that. Hallgerd:"Mezhegei", my killer riff there was inspired by the noise of copulating sheep. Borghild But sheep don´t make noises during copulation. Evgeny: Proud of all. Always cry when think of home.
Which band would you enjoy touring with? Håvard: Gorgoroth - because of those naked women. Borghild You´re always thinking of other women, and you totally ignore me! Hallgerd: With Negative - it´s not Black Metal, but I like their gowns and their make-up. Evgeny: With Huun-Huur-Tu!
What do you plan in the near future? Borghild We plan to play more often outside the Svalbard-Archipelago. At the moments we negotiate concerts at the ice bear reasearch station Spitzbergen and at the university in Longyearbyen. As soon as our CD "Rånråde" is released on the European market, we hope that promoters are going to react quickly and book us to festivals.
