Two years after their 2010 album Audio Secrecy, Stone Sour are back with House of Gold & Bones. Part 1 of this twin release was already released in October; part 2 is following next spring. The concept album has, according to singer Corey Taylor, many elements that “really have an autobiographical nature”, yet the lyrics are written in a way so that no names are mentioned in order to give the listener the chance to find himself or herself in the lyrics.

The song Gone Sovereign is a song that provides a really well-working entry into the band´s album – heavy guitar sounds, combined with expressive yet nasal vocals, a harmonious picture. The album continues not less convincing and impresses most with a really strong guitar sound, which isn´t only catchy but also is very much in the foreground – at times even more than the vocals, unfortunately. The Travelers – Part 1 is a really thoughtful and very beautiful song that definitely stands out from the rest. Acoustic and with strings accompanied, this is how the song surely can win most listeners´ hearts, whilst the second part of the song doesn´t have as much to offer. This isn´t based on the fact that it´s amplified but more on the fact that the mix of slower and then faster parts doesn´t fit very well together in this case. With the song Taciturn, the band takes the same line –sensitive and vocally strong is how the band presents the song here, and this surely sticks to one´s mind due to the well-balanced mixture of acoustic and electric sounds.

Generally, music and vocals harmonise very well with each other on this album - harsh transitions are hardly to be found and the overall sound of the songs is harmonious. Also, the album succeeds well when it comes to the sound of the vocals and the vocal styles, they always sound natural, full of power and are fully able to convey the meaning of the lyrics.
