Gojira´s new album stays true to the band´s sound and even if it´s occasionally less powerful than their previous work, it´s still pretty damn good. I have had it on my mp3 for two days whenever I´m on the way to work and back and I am still not fed up.
This says two things about the album: Firstly, it works splendidly as background music. Not too in-your-face to have to concentrate on it the whole time, but intriguing if you listen to it closely. Secondly, it´s not so bombastic that you are taken with the music to feel strong emotions.
There is at least one song, which can easily be taken out of context and be heard over and over again, namely "The Gift of Guilt." Other than that, the songs are really interwoven that it´s difficult to tell where one song starts and the next ends -typical Gojira.
For everyone, who likes/loves bands like Opeth, who create atmospheric metal, this is definitely something to look into.
