„Step right up, sit right down“ has been the catch phrase for a special Swiss Circus show for 10 years - „Das Zelt“ (= The Tent). Adrian Steiner´s vision from 2003 has become part of the Swiss culture scene, and it´s not a regular circus show, but also features comedy stars and music, and in the last 2 years they created their own productions. „Rock Circus“ is the one we check out closer, promising top acrobats and Rock hits, presented by ex-Miss Swiss 2006 Christa Rigozzi, who has been working as TV host, and Krokus Front man Marc Storace.

The big main tent and the smaller tents housing bars and restaurants are impressive – only the arena has the circus standard, too tight and uncomfortable, which could have been better for a ticket price between 69 und 96 Franks. The band Callaway provides the musical interludes, where singer Jean-Marc Villier truly shines with his rock voice, together with background vocalist Suzy Adair, presenting the biggest Rock hits in history. Christa Rigozzi entertains with anecdotes, for example the story how she used to ride on a motor bike back seat even at very young age, with a real Biker – her dad!

Dance show is provided by the N-Generation Ballett, who do a real good job, but with different outfits there could have been more action. Their dance to „Bed of Roses“ was very dynamic, though. The acrobatic part of the show was provided by Trio Coloro, who also impressed with illusion acts.

The acrobatic highlights were clearly Chris Böhm with his bicycle tricks, fittingly to„Born to be wild“, and the trio Dirty Hands (the brothers Mark and Jan Dosenbach and Michael Hofmann), who proved that you can combine break dance and Rock music. Mark even tried to break his Elbow Spin record of 2005 (16 spins), but no idea if this will be an official new record. After a short break, the musical program continued e.g. with Swiss „Music Star“ 2007 casting show contestant Börni, who cold not live up to Jean-Marc Villier and Marc Storace, though, her voice sounded convincing only for her own song „You can Kiss me“, and her stage moves are still rather awkward than Rock.

Clearly Marc Storace – as part of the most famous and oldest Swiss Rock Acts – was the star of the show, singing AC/DC stuff at least as good as the original vocalist, and naturally he shined with his Gotthard performance, as well as Steve Lee with „Heaven“. Finally the audience in the pretty much sold out arena got crazy, giving standing ovations for all the performers – and this was the enthusiastic easy-going atmosphere that you expect for a real rock concert.

Overall impression: Rock Circus is a good idea, but the show is something still to be worked on, and I am sure that they will raise the level on coming years. You can see Rock Circus after 21.6. in Langenthal, Interlaken, Winterthur, Aarau, Horgen, Luzern and Bern.
