What other people call "Vappu week", we call the "Nicke Andersson week": After the Imperial State Electric gig last Wednesday, Walpurgis Night - in Finland also known as "Vapunaatto" - is going to be celebrated at "Bar Loose" with "The Helicopterit", a The Hellacopters tribute band. And this tribute band attracts a great deal of attention already by the fact that most of its band members are usually playing in the bands Santa Cruz and Caroline. In other words: Full house!
Going out on Vapunaatto is a challenge already: The streets are crowded with tipsy people, and at concerts the audience is going totally wild, which is usually quite exceptional here in Finland. Like tonight when the band around singer Mathias starts their set with "Baby Borderline": Half-length hair, cap on the head - and there you have the Nicke Andersson look. But, of course, these professional musicians don`t rely on the right look only: The guitarists Lottaville (aka Caroline guitarist Ville Vainio) and Sånja (Sonny Dawoud, the brandnew bass player for Caroline) as well as bass player Micke (Santa Cruz` bass player Middy), keyboardist Simon (Caroline`s guitarist Simo Kuusela) and drummer Jonas (better known as Santa Cruz` guitarist Johnny) make sure that the sound is flawless as well. The rest is done by the party smashers like "Toys And Flavors", "Hopeless Case Of A Kid In Denial", "(Gotta Get Some Action) Now!" and the very felicitous "By The Grace Of God".
Only the introductions of the songs in Swedish are a bit confusing at the beginning, but when you start to think about it: The Hellacopters were a band from Sweden. The answer to the riddle. However: As the project "The Helicopterit" is already in progress since a while, it`s rather unlikely that tonight`s gig was a one-time thing in honour of the occasion. And that`s a good thing `cause no-one can replace The Hellacopters - but The Helicopterit are a worthy representative of them... On that note: Hauskaa Vappua!
